Chip (Chipper-roni)
18 Year Old, 16.3 hh Thoroughbred Gelding
Chip has been in my life for quite a few years now, but has only been officially owned by me for the past few years. When I first met Chip, he was bought by some beginner riders as a first horse. He came from a barn where his owner was no longer able to care for him and the barn gained possession of him. The barn owner decided to sell him cheap to get him off her feed bill. He was very skinny, lame, and poor coat condition when they got him. They were able to get his feet better and his coat and weight better but he was a very sassy, smart, and opinionated boy and was not a compatible match for beginners. After restarting Chip for his owners, they moved him to their home and I was only able to see him every once in a while. He was very difficult for them to handle and therefore did not get any attention or training that he so desperately needed. After 4 years, his owners were no longer able to care for him and their other horses and asked if I would take Chip as well as his best friend Ranger.
Chip was again very underweight when he came to me and was very high strung. I did not have a lot of information about his past other than his time with his last owners. I was able to research his lip tattoo and found that his registered name is Hidden Punch and he actually spent a few years racing and had some wins. I was even able to find some of his race videos! After moving him to a new barn, I was able to get weight back on him and got him back into exercise, which he thrived on! Although he is still very sassy under saddle and loves to channel his race days, he is a very sweet and sensitive man on the ground. He loves to rub on you for scratches and is very inquisitive and loves to be in the middle of everything.
