Bandit

4 Year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Mr. Bandit came to me after losing one of our first corgis, Fern. We still had her sister Comet who although is an old lady, she was having a hard time without her sister. I saw a post on Facebook about a 5 month old corgi puppy who was dumped at an animal control office. After struggling in the kennel as well as a foster home, they were looking for someone with corgi experience to adopt him. They told me he was very shy and would growl and even “go after” his foster mom. I took comet and went for a ride to go meet him. I went in first to say hello and the most adorable little puppy came running out to me, all wiggly and happy. They told me he normally is not that excited with new people. We took Comet and him for a walk and they hit it off right away and I knew I couldn’t leave him there.

Bandit was turning into a very happy boy who was really just mildly timid of new people but he would still warm up quickly. Unfortunately as life went on and life circumstances changed, I found myself in a domestic abuse/violence relationship that really affected him as well. I never saw any abuse occur to my animals but as I pulled myself out of this relationship and began to heal I can see that weather he was abused or not, it had definitely affected him. He was very very fearful of new people and animals and really just the world. He has not bitten of anything like that but he does run away and shut down and clearly panics.

As we both began to heal, he is starting to regain his trust and confidence in people and is starting to see that not everyone is here to hurt him or his mom. Also anyone who will play ball or rope swing with him is good in his book!
